About Dr. Kartik Shukla

Dr. Kartik Shukla is a senior consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Ahmedabad with more than 18 years of experience across joint replacement, trauma and reconstructive orthopaedics. He completed his M.B.B.S. from B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad in 2000 with first class, and went on to earn his Master’s degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from the same institution in 2003, finishing with a Gold Medal.

His clinical focus is arthroplasty particularly partial knee replacement, computer-assisted orthopaedic surgery (CAOS), revision joint replacement and minimally invasive hip arthroplasty. Patients who come to him as a knee pain doctor in Ahmedabad are assessed for the full range of options, from conservative management and joint preservation through to partial or total replacement, so that surgery is recommended only when it is the appropriate next step.

Alongside his practice, Dr. Shukla heads the department of joint replacement and orthopaedics at SGVP Holistic Hospital, and is Director and Chief Surgeon at Adarsh Hospital, Telav. He also serves as a visiting surgeon at several orthopedic hospitals in Ahmedabad for complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement cases.

Why I Chose This Profession

I chose orthopaedics because few areas of medicine let you see a patient's life change so clearly. When someone who arrived with a stiff, painful knee or hip walks out of the hospital on their own, that is the result that drew me towards joint replacement. Teaching other surgeons over the years has kept me learning too, and it reminds me that every technique we refine has one purpose: helping patients keep more of their natural movement and return to the life they want to live.

Areas of specialisation

Dr. Shukla treats the full spectrum of adult joint and bone conditions. His most frequently performed procedures include:

Computer-assisted and robotic joint replacement

Dr. Shukla was among the early adopters of computer-assisted unicondylar knee and total hip replacement in Gujarat, and has continued to work with navigation and robotic platforms as they have developed.

Navigation and robotic assistance are tools, not a substitute for surgical judgement. They are used selectively, where implant positioning or a patient’s anatomy makes the added precision worthwhile.

He is a joint replacement specialist. His main areas are partial knee replacement (UKR), Microplasty knee surgery, total knee replacement, minimally invasive and computer-assisted hip replacement surgery, and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. He also manages complex fractures, polytrauma and selected spine conditions.

Dr. Shukla consults at SGVP Holistic Hospital on S. G. Highway, at KDSON Orthopaedic Clinic in Prahladnagar, and at Adarsh Hospital in Telav. A first consultation for knee pain usually involves a clinical examination and an X-ray, with an MRI added only if the findings call for it.
UKR  unicompartmental or partial knee replacement replaces only the damaged compartment of the knee instead of the whole joint. It suits patients whose arthritis is confined to one compartment and whose ligaments are intact. Because less bone is removed, recovery is often quicker than after a total knee replacement. Suitability is decided after examination and imaging.
Yes. He performs partial knee replacement (UKR) as well as revision and complex primary joint replacement procedures, including cases referred after a previous surgery elsewhere. Patients enquiring about MRP surgery in Ahmedabad can discuss which procedure applies to their case during consultation.
Microplasty refers to the instrumentation system used to implant the Oxford partial knee. It is designed to standardise bone cuts and implant sizing through a smaller incision. Dr. Shukla has taught this technique as faculty at Oxford partial knee courses in India, Thailand and Sri Lanka.
Rather than searching only for the best sports orthopaedic surgeon in Ahmedabad, look at three things: how often the surgeon performs the specific procedure you need, whether they teach or train other surgeons in it, and whether they explain non-surgical options before recommending surgery. Ask how many cases of your particular condition the surgeon handles each year.
Most patients stand and walk with support within a day or two of surgery and return to routine indoor activity over the following few weeks. Full recovery, including strength and confidence on stairs, typically takes two to three months. Recovery timelines vary with age, general health and the specific procedure, and your surgeon will give you a plan specific to your case.
No referral is needed. Call the hospital or clinic directly to book. Bring any previous X-rays, MRI scans, operative notes and a list of current medicines to your first visit.
